I've surprised myself by finding (yet another) shockingly good shampoo last week. It always starts with trips to the local mart to buy groceries and I find myself drawn to the self care alley. Boredom is a huge issue with me and I need a variety of products (the prettier the packaging, the better!) to just decorate my shower.
This time I found myself drawn to the Garnier Fructis Long & Strong shampoo only because I'm trying to grow my hair out. The promise of helping my "weak, split difficult to grow long hair" was just enough temptation.

For those uninitiated Garnier is a mass market brand of the French cosmetic giant L'Oreal. Hence, you can rest assured that the quality and results of Garnier's products are bound to be similar to others from L'Oreal.
Fructis has an entire range of shampoo's and conditioner (Fall Fight, Sleek & Shiny, Shampoo + Oil, Anti- Dandruff) for most of your hair problems. They even have a kids shampoo with an effective no tears formula that I have been using for some time for my son.
The shampoo is pearl white in color with a mango-apple fragrance. The consistency is thick and creamy and lathers luxuriously.

Con's of Garnier Fructis Long & Strong Shampoo :
- Contains SLS, Parabens and Silicone
- With regular use left a nasty product build up in my hair, alternate this one with a clarifying shampoo
- Needs to be diluted well with water when lathering or you'll end up using more product than required
To Splurge or Not to Splurge :
If you are a no fuss, budget shampoo buyer who prefers to pick any available brand, you might want to reach out to the Garnier Fructis range of shampoo's next time your at the store. It's a value for money product and will definitely leave your hair looking healthier.

ReplyDeleteI've tried the Long & Strong shampoo from Garnier's Fructis range (reviewed above) and it worked very well on my damaged hair, the ends in particular. The shampoo de-tangles hair reducing breakage and temporarily reduces appearance of split ends. As you may be aware, there is no product which can help with permanent elimination of split ends, so you have to trim them sometime. However, the Long & Strong shampoo does not help with dandruff. Garnier Fructis has an Anti-Dandruff shampoo for the same.
I don't think it would be fair to compare Garnier Fructis with No tear baby formula shampoo as the two have very different ingredients in them. Fructis has SLS, Silicones and Parabens in it, while No Tear Baby formula shampoo is regular shampoo but the chemicals (read : sodium lauryl sulfate) is replaced with detergents which are milder. Hence, if you have a sensitive scalp or develop a reaction to regular soap/shampoo, you may be asked to try baby products. But keep in mind that baby products due to being 'mild' are inefficient in removing dirt, oils and product build up from using gels, mousse, hair spray, serum etc. You need to use a 'cleansing/clearing' shampoo at least once a week to cleanse your scalp of this build up or you may face flaking, hair fall etc.

I WANT MY HAIR TO GROWOUT LONGER AGAIN AND I ALSO WANT TO COLOR IT SINCE I HAVE RED TONES IN MY HAIR AND WANT TO COLOR MY HAIR AND COVER THE G REY HAIR. I HAVE ASENSITIVE SCALP AND ALWAYS HAVE TO PUT SOMETHING IN THE COLOR TO HELP WITH THAT SINCE IF AM MENOPAUSE NOW AND MY HORONES TO THINGS HAVE CHANGED. ANY SUGGESTIONS?

DeleteI can understand the dilemma you must be facing thinking of your health and beauty in the same thought. It's ironic that most cosmetics and beauty products we ladies use have ingredients that are potentially harmful to our health in the long run (read : Sodium, Potassium, Ammonium Sulfates present in hair dyes, Sodium and Guanidine Hydroxide, Formaldehyde in hair relaxers and straighteners). I would have immediately suggested you try the Henna Cacas from Lush because of their natural origin and zero side effects but since you want to get rid of the red tones in your hair and also want grey coverage, its best if you try an ammonia free hair color. You can try the Casting Cream from L'Oreal for at home hair dyeing and the ammonia-free INOA for an in-salon job. However, let me caution you that none of these options are entirely ammonia free and in case your really concerned about the side effects of these chemical laden dyes, your best bet would be going natural which is always beautiful or trying a natural plant based dye.
