Bath Time Must Have's

Heyyy Girls!!!
Time to make the super fun, must have's list! It all began last morning when I hit the shower post my work out and got thinking about the many different accessories and other items every girl needs, every day in her shower. I have must have's and I'm sure you do too. Today, I will be compiling a list of a few bath accessories which you need to make your bathing experience a luxurious, yet efficient affair.

1. Towels
One of life's greatest pleasures is to envelope yourself in a soft, fluffy towel post a warm bath. The more your towel's absorbent powers, the better quality it is made of. However, buying a towel is not as easy as it may seem. You need to have a hand/face towel and a body towel. Make sure to keep individual towels and avoid sharing with your family members for hygienic reasons. Never use wet or moist towels as they are breeding grounds for bacteria. When buying a hand or body towel look for ones which have maximum surface area. Cotton terry towels offer maximum absorbency. If you have a taste for the premium and luxury, then towels made of the expensive Egyptian, Brazilian or Supima cotton are your best choices. For those who enjoy feel and texture when shopping for towels then the ones with a soft, velvety feel and slight weight to them are of good quality. Also, try and buy towels which go with your bathroom decor. However, colored towels may fade after some time while white towels can always be bleached back to their as-good-as-new glory.

Tip : If your towels have become hard and rough due to detergent build up, rinse them in white vinegar in your washing machine. To remove any lingering residue from the manufacturers when using a new towel, wash them in hot water with baking soda.

2. Body Exfoliating Brush, Loofah, Gloves
Who doesn't enjoy a good scrub at every shower? I do! Exfoliation is important to remove the top layer of dead epidermis cells to reveal younger, radiant skin beneath. Exfoliating also helps in keeping your skin's appearance smoother with less wrinkles. There are a variety of bath accessories available in the market today to exfoliate your skin with each bath. You can choose from a synthetic loofah, a sponge, an exfoliating glove or a body scrub brush. Start exfoliating on a dry body, starting from the soles of your feet and moving upwards. Use an exfoliating cleanser on your exfoliating bath accessory for best results. Cleanser which have almonds, oatmeal or sea salts as ingredients are recommended. You can also make your own scrub at home by mixing oilve oil with sugar or ground almonds with milk powder. For mild exfoliation you can use a wash cloth. However, make sure to follow up your exfoliating routine by applying body lotions which preferably have alpha or beta hydroxy acids. Regular moisturing of the skin at least once a day is very important as with the lack of moisture in your skin, exfoliation can do more harm than good to it.

Tip : Make sure to keep changing your bathing accessories every three-four weeks. Also, make sure you dry your loofah or bath pouf daily post use by squeezing out excess water and leaving it in a well ventilated area. Improper use and storage of loofah and bath sponges can lead to growth of bacteria on them and cause rash and infections on your skin.

3. Foot Filer/Pumice Stone
Planning to wear sky high heels to a party this weekend? Have no time for a leisurely pedicure? Get yourself a foot filer and make your shower also the time to get a quick pedicure. A foot filer is a tool especially designed to be used on your feet to remove calluses, dead skin to keep your feet smooth and looking pretty. A variety of foot files, made of different materials and designed for different uses are available. You can make your own foot filer using sandpaper. For those who suffer from painful corns, cracked heels and calluses, foot filing should be made a part of your bath time twice a week. To use a foot file, it helps to soak the feet first, softening up the skin. Many people like to soak their feet in salts and essential oils to make their feet smell good. After soaking, the foot can be filed briskly with the foot file. Maintaining even pressure is important to ensure that calluses are filed uniformly, as is working lightly around sensitive areas of the foot.Once the bulk of dead skin and callused material is removed, a finer file can be used to finish up and then the feet can be rinsed and moisturised. A pumice stone can also do the job of exfoliating and smoothing your feet.

Tip : Do not use a filer or pumice stone on your feet if you have painful corns, calluses which are dis-coloured or bleeding. See a podiatrist who can use advanced techniques to treat or remove particularly troublesome corns and calluses.

4. Razors/Hair removal cream/Waxing strips
Whatever may be your preferred method of unwanted hair removal. It sure needs to have a place in your bathroom. Razors are recommended for those amongst us who freak out at the thought of pain when removing hair. There are a variety of razors available and you can choose according to the frequency with which you shave. Razors can be used to remove hair from under ams, legs and bikini line at the privacy of your home at fractional costs. You can use your regular body wash, moisturising bar soap or shaving foam to shave but be careful to avoid cuts. Always follow up with a moisturiser.
Hair removal creams or Depilatory creams and Waxing strips are some other popular hair removal choices to keep in your bath closet. While depilatory creams are pain free, waxing is painful so be sure to have a strong pain thresh hold. But waxing slows down hair growth eventually and removes hair from the root while depilatories are inefficient in getting to the root, making hair re-appear faster and requiring repeated use. Hair removal creams also have strong odours and can cause a reaction to your skin if not tested before hand, while waxing has no side effects and also removes dead skin and tanning.

Tip : This tip is for my pre-teen or newly teenage readers. I totally understand that you want to flaunt silky, shiny, hair free legs beneath the short skirts but wait till the right time and age to let your sensitive skin grow up fully and settle down before you start so that you can enjoy healthy, hair free skin life long. Also hair removal is a commitment which you will have to keep at so make sure you have the time and resources at your disposal.

5. Shower Cap
Washing your hair everyday is not recommended unless you suffer from an oily, greasy scalp. A shower cap makes it easier to get through your showers without the risk of wetting and the need of re-styling your hair post it. Shower caps are also great when deep conditioning your hair. Just massage some treatment or hair masque into your hair, tie your hair up, throw on a shower cap and carry on with your regular routine. They also come in handy if you plan to sleep over night with hair treatment. Make sure to wash and dry your shower cap regularly to get maximum use from it without the risk of moulding or bacteria.

Tip : If you want to pamper your locks with a deep moisturising treatment but don't have the long hours to sit through it, there is great news! You can do the same in less than half the time. After applying the treatment, wear a shower cap and then using a blow dryer, apply heat to your hair for some time. Your deep moisturising treatment is done in a jiffy!

So girl's, this is my list of must have things in your bath. Hope this post helps you make your bath time the time to rejuvenate, refresh and re-discover yourself.
